Career Summary:

September 2000-November 2001: Founding CEO of Priceline.com Europe & as of Nov. 2001 Chairman.
Started the operations from scratch with the objective to build Europe's leading e-commerce brand with aggressive revenue and profit growth targets. Built a strong management team, the web site, developed and implemented the business/marketing strategy and, secured all the key suppliers. After a year, we had 120k customers, 15k visits/day with a highest offer to visit ratio in the industry and Priceline became one of the top three Internet (travel) brands in terms of awareness in 2000.

March 1997-July 2000: CEO Burger King Corporation & Diageo plc Director.
The Burger King system operates 11,500 restaurants in 56 countries with $11.5 billion sales and 300,000 employees. An aggressive international expansion strategy was developed and implemented with excellent results. The international division in 2000 contributed 16% of Burger King Corporation's operating profit compared to a loss in 1996. A major global re-imaging initiative and kitchen re-design was developed and is being rolled out globally. Served as one of the five founding Board members of President Clinton's welfare to work reform initiative.

June 1995-March 1997: Grand Metropolitan plc - President, IDV Ltd. (world's largest alcoholic beverage company) Asia Pacific & Member of the Board.
In charge of the Asia Pacific region and reported to Chairman and CEO. Promoted in May '95 to this position after a successful turnaround of the company's biggest global brand Smirnoff and the successful development of the IDV business in the Former Soviet Union and Poland.

October 1991-May 1995: Grand Metropolitan plc - President and CEO,
The Pierre Smirnoff Company.
Responsible for Smirnoff worldwide. Smirnoff is the world's largest selling vodka and one of Grand Met's (now Diageo) most important brands. Developed and implemented a successful global strategy. Within a declining industry, Smirnoff has been registering strong volume/profit growth. Launched an award winning (Gold Lion - Cannes '93) global advertising campaign - "Pure Thrill."

1989-1991: Grand Metropolitan plc - President & CEO, Metaxa Distillers S.A.
Head of the Metaxa business worldwide and responsible for the Grand Met Drinks business in Greece, where Metaxa was the leading spirits company.

1987-1989: PepsiCo Inc. - President & CEO of Pepsi-Cola Italia.
Responsible for the Pepsi Cola business in Italy. Developed and implemented a strategic plan for Italy (one of the world's most important soft drinks markets and one of the top European priorities for PepsiCo) with strong distribution, volume and share gains. Key elements of the plan were: refranchising, restructuring/upgrading the PepsiCo organization and the first heavy marketing investment behind the key brands, Pepsi and 7-up.

1986-1987: PepsiCo Inc. - Area Vice President, Mid-East Region.
The Mid-East region is the most important international profit center for Pepsi-Cola Int. Based in the Middle East HQ (Nicosia, Cyprus), reposting to the Regional President.

1979-1986: The Procter & Gamble Inc.
Held various Brand/General management positions in France, Switzerland and the U.K. Worked on key brands such as Pampers, Crest, Ariel, Tide, Head & Shoulders, and Camay.

2000- to date: Reuters plc - Member of the Board.

Education:

1977-1979: University of Chicago, Graduate School of Business - MBA Degree.
Concentration on International Business and Economics. Worked as Summer Associate (1978) with Credit Suisse-First Boston in the Corporate Finance Department.

1973-1977: Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois - BS Degree.
Major in Economics, graduated with honors. Dean's list all four years and full academic scholarship. President of the student government. Received first ever outstanding student leadership award.
