George Alogoskoufis
Minister of Economy and Finance
Born in 1955 in Athens, Greece.
Member of Parliament for the ruling New Democracy Party since 1996.
Opposition Spokesman on Economics (1997-2004).
Professor of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business since 1990.
Lecturer and Reader at the University of London from 1984 to 1992.
As Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors at the Ministry of National Economy (1992-1993), he was responsible for the drafting of the First Convergence Program for the Greek Economy.
Advisor to the European Commission (1989-1990), Advisor to the World Bank (1991-1992) and to other international economic organisations, he has also been a Research Fellow at the Centre for Labour Economics at the London School of Economics (1981-82) and at the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London (1985-2001).
His PhD. thesis was awarded the Sayers Prize of the London University for 1981.
George Alogoskoufis has written four books and over 40 articles published in the most prestigious international academic journals. His book "The Drachma: From the Phoenix to the Euro" was awarded, in December 2002, the annual Prize of the Academy of Athens.
George Alogoskoufis is married with three children.
