Spyros Capralos was born in 1955. He studied Economics at the University of Athens and earned his Master's Degree in Business Administration from INSEAD University in France.
In October 25th 2004 he was appointed as Chairman of the Athens Exchange S.A. and Chief Executive Officer of the Hellenic Exchanges S.A.
On March 2004, he was appointed General Secretary for the Olympic Games of the Ministry of Culture by the Prime Minister and City Manager during the Olympic Games.
As of June 2000, he was Executive Director and Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Organizing Committee for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games.
Between 1979 and 2000 he has served as Managing Director of EFG Balkan Investments, subsidiary company of the Latsis Bank Group (1997-2000), while at the same time he was Vice Chairman of the Board of Bulgarian Post Bank (1998-2000) and Managing Director of the Bank of Athens (1998-1999). Founder and C.E.O. of EPIRUS Co., -a dairy products company - (1994-1997), Executive Vice Chairman of the National Bank of Greece, Chairman of ?.?.?.V.?. (Investment Bank), Chairman of the Insurance Company "ASTIR" (1991-1993) following a 10-year international banking career as Vice-President of Bankers Trust Company (Paris, New York, Athens, Milan).
He set out his sporting career as a Hellenic Champion in Swimming, and participated in the Moscow and Los Angeles Olympic Games as a Water Polo player.
He has served as Member of the Board of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Chef de Mission of the Hellenic Delegation in the Olympic Games in Atlanta and the 1993 Mediterranean Games. In addition, he has been a Member of the Board of the European Swimming Federation, and the Technical Commission of the European Olympic Committees. He has served as Sports Director of the ATHENS 2004 Bid Committee, and Member of the Board of Directors of the Organizing Committee ATHENS 2004 since its establishment.
He speaks English, French and Italian fluently.
