Panos Leivadas
Secretary General of Information

Ministry of State

In March of 2004, Panos Leivadas was appointed Secretary General for Information under the Minister of State, Mr. Rousopoulos, by the Greek Prime Minister, Kostas Karamanlis. Among other duties, he is in charge of Greece's communications strategy and image abroad, while he is a member of the team responsible for the communication of government policies.

Born in Athens in 1964, he graduated from the Athens College and, soon after, left for the United States in order to study Business Administration and Political Science at Hofstra University, New York, and at the University of Florida, Florida. During his undergraduate studies (1983-86), he was actively involved in politics, taking an internship through the Georgetown University, in Washington DC, and also working at the Political Office of the Florida Senator Graham. In his junior year in college, he was elected Senator at the Student Government of the University of Florida and in his senior year, he was elected Minority Leader to the University Senate.

After working in the business sector in the United States, Mr. Leivadas returned to Greece, where he also worked in the private sector.

At the same time, his academic passion for political communication and sociology had brought him back to college. In 1997, he graduated with a Master's of Science in Electoral Sociology, from the University of Athens, while in 1998, he registered as a PhD student. He has already submitted his Doctorate thesis titled "? Synthetic Interpretation Model of Electoral Behavior". Mr. Leivadas has also published extensively on analysis of social studies and polling, economic analyses, political theory, globalization issues, as well as current economic and political events. During his graduate studies, he served as an elected representative for the Post-Graduates of the co-managing body of Political Science and Public Administration in the University of Athens.

He is married to Athina Kranidou and has three children, Basilis, Yvonni, and George.
