Harris Antoniou
Managing Director, Fortis' Transportation Group
Harris Antoniou was appointed Managing Director of Fortis' Transportation Group as per 1 January 2007, after having held to position of Managing Director of the Global Shipping Group as of October 2005.
Prior to that he was the manager of Fortis Bank's representative office in Greece since 1999. He oversaw the office's upgrade to a branch of the Merchant Bank. Antoniou joined the shipping finance group of Mees & Hope in Rotterdam (now part of Fortis) more than 14 years ago after a short spell with ABN-AMRO Global Clients in Amsterdam. Working out of Rotterdam and London he focused mainly on shipping and project financing. In London he was responsible for the bank's combined Energy and Shipping Groups' exposure in the offshore oil services sector with a global responsibility.
Antoniou also initiated co-operation with supranational development institutions such as EBRD and IFC. He is a graduate of Piraeus University and holder of an MBA from Erasmus University in the Netherlands and has completed the General Management Program of Harvard Business School.
