Professor Petros Papageorgiou
Chairman of the Board, Hellenic Public Real Estate Corporation
Professor Petros Papageorgiou currently teaches at the University of Piraeus, Department of Economics, a position he has held for the past 15 years. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Greek Public Real Estate Corporation (K.E.D.) and board member of Liberis Publications Athens.
Previously held positions include, Chairman of the Board of Directors of "OLYMPIC AIRLINES S.A.", until May 2006. A board member and President of the Audit Committee at ETVA Bank from 2000 to 2003 and of Seaways S.A. (Hellas Flying Dolphins,) from 2003 - 2005. Chief Executive Officer of Metroinvest and Metronet in Athens from 1998 until 2002.
Professor Papageorgiou was also a board member of the European Investment Bank from 1993 to 1998. Between 1992-1993 he was appointed Chief of Staff at the office of the Prime Minister of Greece. President and Managing Director of the Industrial Reconstruction Organization until 1992, General Secretary of the Municipality of Athens from 1987 until 1990. General Manager / Chief Financial Officer at Public Power Corporation (PPC) from 1979 until 1982. Executive Director at Elefsis Shipyards (1976-1979).
Professor Papageorgiou gained a BA in Economics from the Athens University of Economics and Business in 1967, an MA in Economics from Northeastern University in 1971 and a Ph.D. in Economics from Boston University in 1975.
He lectures "Public Enterprises and Privatizations", "International Organizations and Economic Cooperation" and " Economics of Human Capital" at the University of Piraeus. Memberships include the American Economic Association, the Greek Association of Economists, the Alumni Association of Boston University, the Alumni Association of the Economic University of Athens (ASOEE), the Economic Chamber of Greece. He is the Secretary General of the Alumni Association of ASOEE from 1978 to 1983.
