-President of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping (HCS) where he was also President (1996-2000 and 2004-2010 and re-elected). Initiated a study of the benefits of shipping to the Greek economy with the University of Piraeus which was given to the Hellenic Ministry of Merchant Marine for reference to support policy measures.(*). He is the 2nd generation of Gratsos, father, son, to have presided the HCS

Zachariadis (MSC Head of Technical Dept. of Atlantic Bulk Carriers the paper "LIFE CYCLE COST OF MAINTAINING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A SHIP'S STRUCTURE AND ENVIRONMENTALIMPACT OF SHIP DESIGN PARAMETERS" at the Royal Institute of Naval Architects (RINA) conference on Design and Operation of Bulk Carrier, in October 2005 in London
-Has presented together with NTUA Prof. H. Psaraftis and P. Zachariadis the paper "LIFE CYCLE COST OF MAINTAINING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A SHIP'S STRUCTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF SHIP DESIGN PARAMETERS- AN UPDATE" at RINA in October 2009, published in the RINA International Journal of Maritime Engineering Vol.152, Part A3, 2010
