Fotini Ioannidou is Head of the Maritime Safety Unit and Deputy Director Waterborne Transport in the Directorate General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission since January 2021. She is currently dealing with maritime safety legislation and coordination of all EU submissions to IMO, including on the GHG file.  She joined the Commission in 1994. Her previous posts include transport policy and inter-institutional coordination, aviation safety and air traffic management, road safety and human resources management. She is an electrical engineer by training and worked as a telecoms consultant in Paris before joining the European Commission.
