Originally from a family of ship chandlers, his career began early by spending school summer holidays on apprenticeships in diverse shipping industry positions. After obtaining a BEng and an MSc in Marine Technology, Stylianos joined the private held shipping company Odysea Carriers, with which he stayed for 11 years. Working as Technical Superintendent for 6 years, he gained solid experience in the management and maintenance of bulk carriers, including repairs, handling of claims and assuring compliance.
In 2010 he took an Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation and returned to Odysea to hold a number of managerial roles, starting as Fleet Manager. From 2012 to 2015 his management responsibilities increased and his role gradually expanded to cover simultaneously Safety & Vetting Manager, Corporate Compliance Manager, IT Manager and Technical Manager. In this period Stylianos led, from its beginning till its successful completion, a 3-year Environmental Compliance programme with the US Government that saw the turnaround of the company's environmental culture and policy.
