Guy Verberne studied economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 1989 to 1993, he was employed at the Treasury of the Dutch Ministry of Finance as an advisor on macro-economic and budgetary policy. He then joined MeesPierson Capital Management N.V., where he worked as a senior portfolio manager on the fixed-income team. In August 1997 he became Chief Economist at MeesPierson Investment Bank. As Head of Economic Research of Fortis Bank NL, Merchant Banking - based in Amsterdam - he is presently responsible for the bank's economic forecasts for the major industrialised countries, in support of all commercial activities of its Merchant Bank.
