After graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in business studies, William subsequently worked for Credit Suisse prior to joining H Clarkson & Co in London as a shipbroker. Relocating to Clarkson Asia Ltd in Hong Kong in 2002, William worked in various roles as a chartering broker, sale and purchase broker and for the group's in-house shipowning and logistics arm. In 2006, William left Clarksons to become a director and co-founder of the Hong Kong-based shipowner Mandarin Shipping Limited. In 2016 William was appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited and elected to the board and in 2019 he took on the role of Managing Director responsible for the group's shipowning activities.
