Peter Lye is the Global Head of Shipping for the Anglo American Group based in Singapore.
Peter is responsible of all Anglo American Group ocean freight activity (safety, sustainability and commercial operations) for large dry bulk, minor bulks and containers. The Anglo American cargo portfolio is one of the most diverse of its peers covering a range of geographies, commodities and vessel sectors.
Peter joined Anglo American in February 2012. During this time Peter has led the consolidation and growth of the Anglo American Shipping division to the point where it now handles in excess of 70Mt of cargo per annum from both equity and third party sources. While overseeing the commercial growth, he has also driven a strong safety, governance and sustainability agenda. For example this has included Anglo American being a founding signatory of the Sea Cargo Charter in 2020, and being a member of the Marine Anti-Corruption Network since 2015.
Peter has over twenty years of commodity and shipping experience. Prior to joining Anglo American, Peter spent 15 years with Rio Tinto in various financial, commercial and marketing roles across a range of commodities, including thermal coal, coking coal and iron ore. Peter was Executive Head of Rio Tinto Marine in Singapore from 2007 to 2011.
Peter has a Master degree in business and technology from the University of New South Wales, and a Bachelor degree in Commerce and a Bachelor degree in Arts from the Australian National University. Peter is also a certified practicing accountant.
