Dr. M. Abdul Rahim FIMarEST FRINA, a naval architect by profession, started his career with Cochin Shipyard building Panamax bulk carriers and the first generation of double hull tankers, after graduation. Later he joined ClassNK in Tokyo after receiving his master and doctoral degrees from Hiroshima University.

He received the IMarEST Institute Branch Award and the Stanley Gray Medal in 2004 and 2005 respectively. He published more than 60 technical papers mainly on ship structures. After long stints in Japan and Singapore, he is currently the Managing Director, Europe and Africa of ClassNK, based in London.
