Having obtained a BEng in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at University College, London and then an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance at City University, John joined the Technical Department of John C. Hadjipateras & Sons Ltd, almost 30 years ago. The company is based in London and has been operating dry bulk vessels for 75 years.

Over three decades, John has been involved in newbuilding projects in Japan and Korea and all aspects of commercial and technical management of modern bulk carriers. He is a Council Member of the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee since 2002, and represents the GSCC on Lloyd’s Register’s Technical Committee. He’s also been appointed to the Marine Advisory Committee of Lloyd’s Register. John has served as a Director and Council Member of the Baltic Exchange and continues to sit on the Baltic’s Membership Council. He is President of the Oinoussai Benevolent Fund, which is an 80 year-old charity supporting the needs of the island of Oinousses. John is a co-founder of Infinity Maritime, which is currently launching a pioneering digital platform to enable the fractionalisation and digitisation of maritime assets.
