David has a broad experience and knowledge of the industry, including shipbuilding, ship repair, operations, management and the regulatory process, gained by an extensive career in shipping.
David came ashore in 1988 with 8 years experience as Chief Engineer with the next 12 years spent in ship management in positions rising from Engineer Superintendent to Technical Director/Senior Vice President. This was followed by 12 years in the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), where he presented the agreed ICS Industry position in International and other forums as the ICS Director, Regulatory Affairs.
He has been recently appointed Secretary General of the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) which was established in 1980 and presently represents around 180 Members with some 1,100 ships to promote safety, quality, efficiency and protection of the environment and be the direct entry voice of the dry bulk sector, with particular emphasis on contributing to, and in support of the work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
