Professor Arcoumanis holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physics, Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Thessaloniki in Greece, the University of California in USA and Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, respectively. After spending some 20 years at Imperial College London where he was Professor of Internal Combustion Engines, he joined City, University of London in 2001 as Dean of its School of Engineering and was later promoted to Deputy Vice-Chancellor/Vice-President. Following his retirement from City at the end of 2014, he is holding Honorary Professorships at Shanghai Jiao Tong and Tianjin Universities in China and at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia.
In 2012 Professor Arcoumanis was appointed Ambassador of Greece for Energy Policy and New Technologies followed by his appointment as Director and Member of the Board of the Angelicoussis Shipping Group and as Chairman of the Academic Board of the Metropolitan College in Greece. He is a Fellow of the UK Institute of Directors, the International Society of Automotive Engineers and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
