Commander Nathan Menefee currently serves as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Inspections and Compliance at Coast Guard Headquarters. The Directorate manages policy development for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, national recreational boating safety program, foreign and domestic commercial vessel compliance programs, ports facility safety and security, as well as marine casualty investigations and vessel documentation.

Commander Menefee is a 2002 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Operations and Technology and an unlimited tonnage Third Mate's Merchant Mariner License. Commander Menefee earned a Masters in Management from the University of Phoenix in 2007. Prior to his current assignment at Coast Guard Headquarters, Commander Menefee has served at Coast Guard Sector offices in Los Angeles California, Anchorage Alaska, and San Francisco California where he served in various capacities conducting vessel inspections, marine casualty investigations, and merchant mariner Suspension and Revocation proceedings
